From June 1st through 7th, Mei Xinlin, Secretary of our University, was invited to visit the University of California, Irvine ( UCI ) and the University of California, San Diego ( UCSD ) and Western University of Canada.
During the visit to the United States, President Mei met with USI’s vice president, Howard Gillman. Each of the two sides briefly introduced the school’s basic education situations. They made a deep exchange in student exchanges, teacher-student exchanges, international cooperation, and signed a friendly cooperation agreement between our two universities. President Mei and others held a discussion with the directors of the University's Office of International Affairs, Academy of Medicine, and of Engineering Academy. They listened to the achievements on the training of students at the international school, on the cooperation of research projects, discussed the feasibilities of student exchanges, teacher exchanges, cooperation in scientific research, and reached a common consensus on further cooperation between our two universities. After the seminar, President Mei, accompanied by school authority, visited the United States National Fuel Cell Research Center and the California Embedded Load Research Center.
State University of San Diego President, Pradeep Khosla, gave a brief introduction to the school regarding cooperation with Chinese Universities, and expressed a strong interest in communication and cooperation with our university specifically, leading to the two universities signing a memorandum of cooperation in running school recommendations. Mei Xinlin briefly introduced the features and advantages of the Zhejiang University of Technology, of teacher/student exchange, cooperation in running school recommendations and scientific research cooperation, amongst other issues. In the end, a preliminary cooperation intention was reached.
Mei Xinlin also met America Erwin Pharmaceutical Service Corporation (IPS) CEO, Assad Kazeminy, and the international development director Winston Zhang, to exchange views on speeding up the “Sino-American Pharmaceutical Independent Testing Laboratory” construction. America Erwin Pharmaceutical Service Corporation (IPS) is an American FDA registered, independent drug enforcement license analysis laboratory, and center for drug development, research and development, production manufacturing, and full, comprehensive service comprehensive corporation. In November of 2011, our school formally signed an agreement with IPS and decided to jointly build the "Sino American Pharmaceutical Independent Testing Laboratory.” The laboratory is located in the Zhejiang University of Technology, and undertaken by the "Yangtze River Delta Green Pharmaceutical Collaborative Innovation Center".
During the visit, Mei Xinlin met with Western university's president Amit Chakma. The two sides briefly reviewed the exchange and cooperation since the two universities signed a framework cooperation agreement. They fully affirmed the achievements made in the two schools in cooperation exchange visits and 2+2 joint training project. The two sides said the next step will further expand areas of cooperation and scope of communication. During this period, Mei Xinlin also met with the vice president Janice Deakin, associate vice president Julie Mcmullin and the Canadian Academy of engineering, Zhu Jingxu, director of Ajay Ray, Department of Chemical Engineering Institute president Andy Hrymaky. The two sides will further strengthen the cultivation of students between the two schools, teacher and student exchange and research cooperation to share ideas, and an in-depth study of the new joint school running model. After the forum, Mei Xinlin and Julie Mcmullin, accompanied by Zhu Jingxu, visited the campus and academician Zhu Jingxu’s Particle Technology Research Center. During the visit, Mei Xinlin also visited our school’s 3 exchange students, learning and understanding more about their living situation abroad. He encouraged them to cherish the opportunity to study abroad, and contribute to the promotion of friendly and cooperative of the two universities.
America University of California at Irvine (UCI) and the University of California at San Diego (UCSD) belong to the California University system. They are well-known public American Universities and world famous research centers, known as one of America's public “Ivy League” schools. The University of California at Irvine has three Nobel Prizes and this American public university ranked twelfth in the 2013 world university rankings, with the center (CWUR) ranked forty-fourth in the world. The University of California at San Diego has produced twenty Nobel award winners and this American public university ranked seventh in the 2013 world university rankings, the center (CWUR) ranked fourteenth in the world.
Western University was founded in 1878, and is one of the most famous universities in Canada. It is one of the top law educations in North America, alongside Harvard University. The quality of teaching, student satisfaction, curriculum diversity, teacher-student interaction, entertainment and sports index ranks at the top of Canadian schools for many years now.
