Zhang Libin’s visiting Polish Maria Curie-Sk-odowska University

Recently, Zhang Libin, our school headmaster, was invited to visit Maria Curie-Sk-odowska University, located in Lublin, eastern Poland. He made a report entitled “China’s Higher-Education Internationalization,” to the school’s teachers and students. Zhang Libin introduced the development situation and internationalization of China’s higher education from two dimensions of China and Zhejiang University of Technology, and introduced a series of measures used to advance educational internationalization by China’s government and ZJUT. In the report, Zhang Libin also introduced a new priority program of China’s higher education, “University Innovation Ability Promotion Program (2011 Program)”, and the construction and development vision of “Green Pharmaceutical Collaborative Innovation Center” of ZJUT. In the seminar, Zhang Libin also interacted with teachers and students in UMCS about relevant questions, like reciprocal visits between the two schools’ teachers and students, student scholarship program and so on.

During the visit, Zhang Libin had a meeting with president and vice-presidentof UMCS. Both sides introduced the latest situation on each school’s management, and discussed the cooperative key fields and programs. Zhang Libin signed the memorandum of cooperatively running schools between ZJUT and UMCS with Michalowski. During the meeting, Zhang expressed our congratulations on the seventieth anniversary of UMCS.

Then, Zhang visited laboratories of UMCS, PVTC, etc. Also he attended academic exchanges with this school’s deans and institute professors and faculties of mathematics, physics and computing. Zhang introduced our researches and achievements on major electromechanical equipment and technology, laser processing technology, etc. In the aspects of electromechanical and photoelectric technologies, to carry out scientific research cooperation and co-cultivate students, both sides have broad prospects. Through this visit and exchange, mutually we have had full and thorough understanding. The next step is to embark on a joint declaration program, exchange visits between teachers and students and other specific work.

Furthermore, Zhang also visited other labs of UMCS, like national interdisciplinary labs for functional nanomaterial and the center for nanotechnology, as well as held talks with deans and institute professors of the schools of chemistry, biology and biotechnology. Both sides sufficiently understood the aspects of the respective school’s student education, faculty and scientific research, etc. What’s more, they probed into relative domains and subjects to further launch cooperation and communication.

In addition, he attended the UMCS “Sculpture and pottery exhibition” opening ceremony  and delivered a speech. In his speech, Zhang firstly congratulated this exhibition beforehand on its success and said these sculptures and ceramic works, which could be displayed at the collegiate China Culture Exchange Center, meant that culture and art exchange between our two schools had reached a new height. He hoped teachers and students of each college could have closer communication and welcomed artists in UMCS to Hangzhou. In the College of Art, Zhang held talks with the president of the college and some of the teachers and students. He was shown around the Art and Culture Center, the oil painting museum, as well as student practice bases, like the student TV station of School of art, film studios, animation labs, etc. During the visit, students displayed their own works of music and film.

Moreover, Sieminski, executive vice mayor of Lublin, and Bobryk, vice mayor for education and cultural exchange, met respectively with Zhang Libin. Zhang reviewed the basic situation of ZJUT and progress which our school has made to service the locals. Sieminski selectively introduced that, to accelerate the development of provincial economy, Lublin, like other Central and Eastern European cities, has had a large number of infrastructure programs like airport and expressway construction in the present and near future. He also represented Lublin to welcome Zhejiang enterprises and universities to have a chance at joining these projects. Bobryk introduced that Lublin is a famous college town in Poland. Colleges’ population accounts for almost one third of the total population. UMCS is also one of the universities with the  highest schooling level. Carrying out exchange and cooperation with ZJUT is bound to ulteriorly facilitate both schools’ development. She wished, with the cooperation between the two schools for the platform and opportunity, to strengthen exchange and cooperation between Lublin and Zhejiang colleges and educational institutions of all levels and advance educational exchange between Poland and China.

Lastly, he accepted the interviews of Lublin local TV station, radio station and newspaper. Zhang focused on the situation of ZJUT and Hangzhou. He was glad for the media coverage and wished to have more publicity to let local people understand China and welcomed them to Hangzhou and ZJUT.
