The Hangzhou Division of the 2014 “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students was held at Zhejiang University of Technology (ZJUT) on May 8th . Co-endorsed by the China Central Television (CCTV) and the Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban),. CCTV Chinese International Channel hosted culture filled quiz show. Our school undertook the organization of the Hangzhou competing area.
Competitors of the competition consisted of 52 foreign students coming from 14 colleges and universities including Zhejiang University and Zhejiang University of Technology as well as Zhejiang Normal University, and many more. The competition mainly focused on the contestants’ pronunciations and tones of Chinese characters, reactions of conversation, abilities of communicating and debating as well as understandings of China and Chinese culture. Finally after a heated play, Luo Te and Li Zhiyuan of ZJUT, George of Zhejiang University, Mayuba of Wenzhou Medical University and Dahlia of Zhejiang University of Science and Technology won the pass-cards for the national finals in Beijing in this June.
Based on Chinese characters and Chinese culture, the “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students extends to the profound connotation of Chinese culture. Combining features of entertaining and enlightening, the competition is programmed with practical factors. With manifold dimensions the competition has also displayed the enchantments of Chinese culture and showed the enthusiasm of foreigners learning Chinese. ZJUT has been the organizer of the competition for three years. As a significant platform and channel to promoting school and its international influence, the competition is also an extraordinary opportunity for manifesting our academic construction and advancing the progress of an international campus.
